Oh Culture !
So since we finished up our double issue cycle we have had quite a bit of a breather. Things at work have been pretty slow waiting on the arrival of the Jan/Feb combined Issue. Lots of time to get the finances straight, ruin them again by Christmas shopping, clean out my desk, and eventually get to my email before it crashes again from being riddled with multiple megabyte photo files.

The other day Alex got department permission to take a field trip over to the Galleries in Chelsea for some new artsy inspiration. I rarely get a chance (read: motivation) to go over there and check out what is going on but I am glad we did. It was amazing. We even got to see the controversial chocolate Jesus. I thought it would have made the experience if they had given you a bit of chocolate to eat while looking at the installation, you know “body of Christ” just my idea.
It was kind of awkward to see if you were able to take photos of the exhibits so I really only snapped a few. This was a showing of Do Ho Suh at Lehmann Maupin Gallery called Cause and Effect. This entire structure is made up of interlaced plastic human figures. It was really impressive to see how he went about it. The colors were amazing as well.
Our last stop was the Sean Kelly Gallery to see an installation called Blind Light by Antony Gormley. It was insane. It was this glass box in the middle of the room with this vapor filling it. You walked in and within 10 steps into the inner room all your senses were totally thrown off. You weren’t aware of direction or anything. It was literally just white light all around you. This is Alex standing probably a foot away from the camera. If you walked further than right next to each other in distance all of a sudden the other person just became a voice. I was very impressed with the exhibit.

So at the end of the night we went our separate ways. I went home to a spin class, which was not fun to do with legs already stiff and sore from walking around Chelsea all day. And Alex went to ref a Volleyball game…afterwards her boyfriend asked her to marry him! Aw!
