Murphy had our couch for dinner

There was a tiny hole in the couch and Murphy felt he wanted to help it out and then some. I can't even imagine what went through Eric's head when he came home only to see half of the couch's insides chewed up and laying around in various pieces around the room. Now we have a ghetto couch covered in a sheet. Starting a couch fund to get this little beauty and get back in to the life of luxury (or the NYC equivalent when you aren't a billionaire)

Turkey (or non-turkey day)

We took a trip down to Apex, North Carolina for Thanksgiving. Nothing too eventful; lots of cooking, little bit of sight seeing, some Black Friday shopping (all done with my Christmas shopping!), and a lot of nap taking. I don’t know if we had the luck or fell into the wormhole of easy airline travel on our way there and our way back. Unheard of! But we waltzed in got all checked-in, breezed through security, and had an over all relaxing experience. Now its back to work and the building excitement for my birthday party this coming Saturday and my birthday-birthday on Monday! As well as organizing all the gifts for Christmas! Hoping we get a tree soon (and that Murphy will obtain from trying to pee on it)

Oh Culture !

So since we finished up our double issue cycle we have had quite a bit of a breather. Things at work have been pretty slow waiting on the arrival of the Jan/Feb combined Issue. Lots of time to get the finances straight, ruin them again by Christmas shopping, clean out my desk, and eventually get to my email before it crashes again from being riddled with multiple megabyte photo files.

The other day Alex got department permission to take a field trip over to the Galleries in Chelsea for some new artsy inspiration. I rarely get a chance (read: motivation) to go over there and check out what is going on but I am glad we did. It was amazing. We even got to see the controversial chocolate Jesus. I thought it would have made the experience if they had given you a bit of chocolate to eat while looking at the installation, you know “body of Christ” just my idea.
It was kind of awkward to see if you were able to take photos of the exhibits so I really only snapped a few. This was a showing of Do Ho Suh at Lehmann Maupin Gallery called Cause and Effect. This entire structure is made up of interlaced plastic human figures. It was really impressive to see how he went about it. The colors were amazing as well. Our last stop was the Sean Kelly Gallery to see an installation called Blind Light by Antony Gormley. It was insane. It was this glass box in the middle of the room with this vapor filling it. You walked in and within 10 steps into the inner room all your senses were totally thrown off. You weren’t aware of direction or anything. It was literally just white light all around you. This is Alex standing probably a foot away from the camera. If you walked further than right next to each other in distance all of a sudden the other person just became a voice. I was very impressed with the exhibit.

So at the end of the night we went our separate ways. I went home to a spin class, which was not fun to do with legs already stiff and sore from walking around Chelsea all day. And Alex went to ref a Volleyball game…afterwards her boyfriend asked her to marry him! Aw!

Life of Louie

Last night I surprised Eric with tickets to go see Louis CK, if you get a chance youtube.com his work and you’ll be crying and kicking on the floor holding your sides from laughing. I had tears streaming down my face for 3/4 of his show. He is one of Eric’s favorite comedians so about 3 months ago I was looking around to see when he was playing. Especially after the medical co-pays for breaking my arm over the summer my money was tight but I knew Eric would love the opportunity to go see him live rather than through the 3"x4” window of youtube.com. I got him to come up town to meet my mom for dinner and then told him I had to head to Times Square to pick up some props for a photo shoot at the magazine. We rounded the corner to the Town Hall (the venue where the show was) and Eric pointed it out to me since he had been there before. Then I responded with “oh yea that’s where we are going” he gave me a blank look and I whipped the tickets out and said “cause we are gonna go see Louis CK”. I am glad that I was able to keep the surprise going for three months all the way to the last minute and I really hope it made him happy. A lot of laughter made it a good night even though we were both exhausted. Tonight; off to Boston MA to see Woz and Mattt and maybe David if he is in town!

Now we match

Cate and I decided a few years ago to get the words Verus Amor tattooed on ourselves. It directly translates for Latin to English as " True Love". I got mine about 2 years ago and she got hers last night. Both were done by the lovely Danielle Destanfano.

Mori Ex Cacao

So gorgeous!

Based on DL&Co’s Memento Mori Collection, the exquisite skulls are rendered in bittersweet chocolate, filled with one of three delicious centers, then individually painted with colored cocoa butter to
achieve the pristine, disturbing result.

These marvelous and macabre chocolate skulls are among the most extravagant confections made today - Available flavors include:

Scorched Caramel
Organic cream is slowly combined with sugar over an intense flame, until the deep amber confection appears. Decadent.

Bitter Brandied Cherry
An exquisite and unusual confection of indulgent bitter chocolate, Kirsch-perfumed ganache and succulent sour cherries steeped in liqueur, finished in porcelain white cocoa.

Curious Chili
An eccentric array of chilies and spices are combined with the deepest chocolate into an exotic and exciting sensation, with a heat that lingers long after the chocolate is gone. An extraordinary experience.

Really great movie I saw with alex recentally

Persepolis is a French-language graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi that describes her childhood in Iran after the revolution. The title is a reference to the historical town of Persepolis Persepolis is followed by Persepolis 2, which details Satrapi's life afterwards, during the war between Iran and Iraq. Simply drawn in black and white it found great popularity following its release (Time Magazine included it in its Best Comix of 2003 list). Persepolis 3 describes her high school years in Austria, and Persepolis 4 describes her return to Iran, where she went to college, got married, and later divorced, before moving to France, where she now lives.

The story has been adapted into an animated film, by Sony Pictures Classics. The film is voiced by Catherine Deneuve, Chiara Mastroianni, Danielle Darrieux and Simon Abkarian, among others. It debuted at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Prize of the Jury. The film drew complaints from the Iranian government even before its debut at the festival.
Also, I had forgotten to mention the other weekend was Sara's birthday party. We went to Fat Cat in the West village which was basically what you remember your middle school's rec room looking like, you know the one where you went and hung out after school (usually in the basement) if you were a cool kid and then took the "late" bus home after getting your pass (our's was called "the pit"), yea well it was like that except this included beer legally.
